FURNITURE IDEAS FOR SMALL APARTMENTS

Space-saving sofa bed with built-in storage for small apartments

Okay, let’s just be real about small apartments. I’ve lived in one for years,  and trust me, I have become a pro at making things fit. If you’re tripping over your stuff and you’re ready to change up your space,  strap yourself in because these furniture ideas will make your small apartment feel like a damn palace. And while I’m not an interior designer, I learned a few tricks that will make it feel like you have one on speed dial.

What is a small apartment?

A small apartment usually describes a space that doesn’t have much square footage thus feeling more compact and cosier.

The size can vary based on where you’re living and the local standards. A small apartment is typically regarded as anywhere from 300 to 500 square feet. This would be a studio or one-bedroom apartment where you have to make every inch count.

If it’s a one-bedroom or smaller two-bedroom apartment, small apartments can reach up to about 800 square feet. Anything beyond that begins to venture into the “medium” apartment range.

So, anything under 800 square feet is considered small, but then again, layout and how you use the space also play a role in this.

Top 20 Furniture Ideas for Small Apartments

1.  Multifunctional Sofas

Alright, listen up! You know how I feel about sofas that function, in addition to looking cute, right? A sofa bed, a sectional with concealed storage, or one that cantilevers out for lounging are the real MVPs in small spaces.

I love for my furniture to work overtime. If my couch isn’t also serving as a guest bed, hiding my random crap or just somehow doing double duty, then what’s the point?

Honestly, I literally can’t imagine living without a versatile piece like this. It’s like a space superhero for a modern studio interior, and who doesn’t love a good superhero moment?

Nesting tables are the very definition of small space lifesavers. I use them for everything drinks, snacks, maybe even sometimes, I’ll use them as a mini makeshift workspace when I’m just too lazy to sit at my actual desk.

I like them because they’re nice and compact, and if I need more space I can just shove them away. Pure magic, guys.

Honestly, if you haven’t joined the nesting tables train by now, then you’re missing a crucial piece of furniture that will make any small apartments.

You know those foldable chairs that you can just pull out when you have guests? I cannot live without them.

Foldable chairs are a game changer when you’re trying to make a small apartment feel like it has enough seating for, like, 10 people even though it’s only meant to seat.

Easy to organize, easy to pull out when you need them, and, frankly, they’re cute,  too. They’re also portable, so they come in handy when you need seating for a crowd in any room.

Okay, I’m gonna keep it real with you, storage ottomans are the secret weapon any small apartment could use. They’re ideal for stashing blankets, pillows, or that random pile of crap that you just can’t figure out where to put.

I use mine as a shoe closet and, when I’m feeling lazy, a footrest during Netflix marathons. Multifunctional, baby! They’re also a great way to add additional texture or colour to a room.

Plus, it’s small enough not to overstuff the room but big enough to entertain a small gathering. You gotta have a rack if you’re trying to be exotic in your small apartment.
